Title: An Ergodic Theoretic Proof of van der Waerden’s and Szemeredi’s Theorems on Arithmetic Progressions

Abstract: Let N = {1, 2, 3, …} be the disjoint union of finite number of sets C(1), C(2),…, C(k). Then one of the sets C(i) contains arithmetic progressions of arbitrary length. This is van der Waerden’s Theorem and Szemeredi’s Theorem is a generalization of this. Both the proofs are combinatorial. We will present an Ergodic Theoretic proof of these results due to Furstenberg.
