National Mathematics Day-December 22 (Birthday of Srinivasa Ramanujan). Open Day for the Institute, Poster & Documentary presentations and a Public lecture on the Mathematical Heritage of Kerala.
KSoM is observing the National Mathematics Day (December 22) this year at the institute with various activities throughout the day. The day will be observed as an Open day for the institute when school/college students, teachers, parents and the public will be welcomed to the institute. Various academic activities and facilities of the institute will be explained. Details on various fellowship programs available in the country for students with mathematical aptitude at various levels of study will be provided. Information on a number of prestigious national institutes and the courses offered there at various levels for mathematically talented students will be available. Faculty members and research scholars of the institute will be available to interact with the visitors.
A poster presentation on the Mathematical Heritage of Kerala detailing the personalities and contributions of the ancient `Madhava School’ of Kerala will be on display in the corridors of the institute throughout the day.
Screening of a documentary film made by the BBC on the mathematical contributions of ancient civilizations from around the world with special reference to the Madhava School will be arranged in the seminar hall of the institute from 10:00 a.m. to I:00 p.m.
A public talk titled `Mathematical Heritage of Kerala’ by Professor P. P.Divakaran (former professor of the `Tata Institute of Fundamental Research’), an expert on the mathematical legacy of Madhava and his associates will be arranged at 2:30 p.m. in the seminar hall of the institute.
